JOSE MORA-JIMENEZ (1977)

I was born in Costa Rica, where I studied Classical Guitar and Music Composition at the University of Costa Rica. I've been living in the Netherlands since 2006 where I studied composition at The Royal Conservatory in The Hague, I also followed the master’s degree Cultural Economics and Cultural Entrepreneurship at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam where I graduated Cum Laude.

My music has been published and recorded in different countries and is regularly performed around the world. I'm currently active as a composer of modern music as well as composer of music for video games and media.

  • Winner of the Central American Composition Contest of the World Piano Teachers Association (2021)

  • Winner of the 2018 National Music Prize in Composition, Costa Rica (2018)

  • Third prize at the Rust International Guitar Festival Composition Competition, Austria (2017).

  • Winner of The International Timo Korhonen Composition Competition, Finland (2016).

  • Third prize at the Nilufer International Classical Guitar Competition, Turkey (2015)

  • Honorable Mention at the Boston Guitarfest Composition Competition, USA (2013).

  • Winner of the 4th Calefax Reed Quintet composition competition 2011, the Netherlands (2011).

  • Winner of composition competition of the association “Vrienden van het lied”, the Netherlands (2011).

  • Second prize at the Boston Guitarfest Composition Competition, USA (2009).
